For the past five years, Leighann has worked as a sessional academic at Australian Catholic University, Banyo within the School of Education. In her work with preservice teachers, she has lectured and tutored units including Technologies (pedagogies and assessment), Science (pedagogies and assessment), Technologies and Engineering in an Integrated STEM classroom and Digital Pedagogies.
Leighann was the inaugural STEAM Education Officer at QUT The Cube and was responsible for designing and delivering workshops to middle years’ students specialising in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) based content. These workshops explored real world topics through the the use of contemporary digital technologies such as LEGO robotics and littlebits.
Leighann has delivered professional development for educators for and on behalf of Australian Catholic University, the Queensland Art Teachers Association, the Design and Technology Teachers Association, Adolescent Success, Pedagogy Exchange (QUT) and Flying Arts.
Leighann has developed curriculum-linked resources and activities for the State Library of Queensland and is actively involved in many initiatives within the broader design community in Queensland such as Design Minds (Asia Pacific Design Library, SLQ).
Leighann has worked within a primary school setting as a Technologies Teacher in Residence supporting the implementation of the Technologies curriculum and building teacher capacity across the year levels.
An interdisciplinary approach to pedagogy is central to her current practice and she is passionate about designing learning experiences that promote creativity across the curriculum.
